Sailing Yacht 'Misia
II'
Szmaragd I
Yacht Misia II was built in 1969 in the Yacht Shipyard Gdansk-Stogi as one among
the SZMARAGD I class. She was designed by engineers under leadership of eng.
Waclaw Liskiewicz. The yacht was bought by Mechanical Plant "Zamech" in Elblag
and donated to Sailing Club TKKF ZAMECH. Because of privatization and change of
Zamech owner in 1992, the yacht was transferred for use in the Yachtclub Elblag,
who is the successor of the Sailing Club TKKF Zamech. Throughout all that time
the Misia II bravely served the Elblag's yachtsmen. There was wide number fans
of sailing at her deck. She was sailing and still sails on Vistula River Bay,
Gdans Bay and the Baltic Sea.Until 1990 entrance to the Baltic Sea was possible
only for the small boats through the channels and locks to the Vistula river and
Gdansk. Route to the Baltic Sea through the Baltijsk strait (Russia) was closed
and forbiden for us since Second World War. In Baltijsk, there was and still
existing the powerfull navy base of former Soviet Union and now Russian
Federation. On 23th of June 1990, Misia II broke this ban and as a first Polish
ship unit flew out from Vistula Bay through the Baltijsk strait to Baltic sea
without consequences. Originator of this voyage and the crew member was Edmund
Krasowski, the member of Polish Parliament. This voyage went down in history.
Henryk Malentowicz, the yacht captain was awarded the "Voyage of the year" prize
from Polish Yacht Association. Since that time Polish ships and yachts are
allowed to sail this route, though sometimes there are obstacles and prohibition
times caused by
Russians. Since 1993, the Misia II carer was Andrzej Hulanicki, who taking
opportunity of club property privatization, bough the yacht in 2002 and now he
is the owner. Despite her age, the Misia II still sails to the Baltic sea and
taking part in the races. She visited Polish ports of open sea many times and
ports of Bornholm, Sweden and Germany. Last three seasons, there were several
wonderful voyages to Lithuania and Latvia. Very good positions won by Misia II
on various races show her incredible sailing properties. For instance she won 1-st
place in International Race of the Baltic Navy Commanding Officer Cup, on the
occasion of 300 Anniversary of Russian Baltic Navy. This competition took place
on 24 - 27 of July 2003 on the Baltic sea in Russia. Misia II is an
original yacht. There is no changes or modern conveniences except GPS device.
All technical data of the yacht are standard and only sail surface is a bit
larger and it's 38 sq meters. This yacht requires a lot of work before season
starts but pay back with iterest during voyages and races. Besides, she have her
